Fleamarket day in Herttoniemi

Let me start this post with saying this. We Finns are ODD.. Compared to say most other European countries, we are quite shy, and unsocial even. And then we have days like Restaurant Day of like today, flea-market day. Suddenly everybodys talking with strangers, making sales, generally enjoying a very good time. Its like every chance people get, they make up for the weirdness and unsocial behaviour for the rest of the year. Well I jest, but there is a seed of truth in this.

Anyway, one of Helsinki citys nice boroughs had their yearly traditional flea-market day today. Estimated amount of people buying and selling old stuff was in the region of 10 000. Arriviving a couple of hours late was a good way to avoid the worst congestion. The weather was stupendously nice as well with the temperature hovering close to +20 C. Even the leaves are finally growing in the trees so there was a really good summerly feeling.

A couple of quick snaps to show some of the feeling in the streets. I was not focusing too much on the photography today, more just enjoying the company and the warm day as well as the happy people. A beautiful day.

The Siilitie Metrostation is a new structure with a bit of functional architecture as well.

The colors of spring

Spring rushes on with amazing speed. Soon there will be leaves in the trees and everything will turn green. At the moment though, the colors seem to be more golden and yellow as there has been a dry spell for a while in Southern Finland. We have also been enjoying wonderfully warm weather since the beginning of Easter.

Golden hour is a great time to photograph the nature. A hike along one of the citys many small forests was by intention for fitness, but I took a camera along for the ride. Birds were not very co-operative and did not come close enough for a proper shot so I chose those subjects that were available..

puunjuurella

Between the photos taken there was a small forest. And a herd of wild white-tailed deer. Unfortunately there was a lot of brush and they were very fast, so no photos of those beauties this time.

Abstract

linesSometimes it is just wonderful to photograph the more abstract things in life. For example this photo from the weekend. Quite abstract, more along the thinking of lines and triangles.  There are so many lines and repeating patterns.. Sometimes I feel like our lives are like that as well?

Hopefully I will be posting more along the lines of food soon as well. And more than that I hope to be able to write a bit more as well, seems I have more or less been posting photos, but not so much the thoughts that have gone into them. This, mostly due to life being rather hectic at the moment. So much to do at work and also not enough free time.

Small but important

Victorinox

I got my first small Victorinox tool when I was a small kid. It has served me well over the years and it still does its job. However I saw a bargain so I bought a new bit bigger version. Hopefully this will serve me as well for the next couple decades..

The old ones has seen jungles, winters harsh, Nordic summers, Balkan winters and as small as it is, it just is one of those things that are so useful that it always accompanies me on trips.
