Let me start this post with saying this. We Finns are ODD.. Compared to say most other European countries, we are quite shy, and unsocial even. And then we have days like Restaurant Day of like today, flea-market day. Suddenly everybodys talking with strangers, making sales, generally enjoying a very good time. Its like every chance people get, they make up for the weirdness and unsocial behaviour for the rest of the year. Well I jest, but there is a seed of truth in this.
Anyway, one of Helsinki citys nice boroughs had their yearly traditional flea-market day today. Estimated amount of people buying and selling old stuff was in the region of 10 000. Arriviving a couple of hours late was a good way to avoid the worst congestion. The weather was stupendously nice as well with the temperature hovering close to +20 C. Even the leaves are finally growing in the trees so there was a really good summerly feeling.
A couple of quick snaps to show some of the feeling in the streets. I was not focusing too much on the photography today, more just enjoying the company and the warm day as well as the happy people. A beautiful day.
The Siilitie Metrostation is a new structure with a bit of functional architecture as well.
Cloud services are all the rage nowadays. Now there is a newcomer on the block, which hails from my homeland. Younited by F-Secure is a cloud service which provides added security and also compatibility with other clouds like dropbox and oneDrive (formerly known as skydrive). I will be using Younited and will see how it fares in my use. This photo is of their fun campaign with SOME in the form of a giant hashtag.
Quick blast from the past.
Gibraltar is the only place in Europe where one can find monkeys in the wild. The saying goes, as long as there are monkeys in Gibraltar, so long will the British rule. 😉
This adult, probably a male, was quite aggressive and seemed to mean the business, he had the look: Don´t you dare come closer. The youngling was far more accommadating. Both pictures were taken with a 20mm so I was really close in reality. Not a proper portrait focal length by any means, but you make do with what you have in the moment with you.
On the normal home-work routine I snapped this quick pic of the view.
Because of the cold night the trees were covered in frost and ice and everything was somehow beautiful and serene. Due to the breaking down of the tram I was in I was not in a particularly good mood but the beauty still captures my eye.
Today the temperatures dropped to under -20 celsius practically everywhere in Finland. As is the nature of colder days the skies were clear and so the sun shone in its very low zenith for a couple hours.
Excellent weather to be outside properly dressed. The sea is also frozen up so there was a lot of traffic on the ice as well.
More pictures coming, need to go amd sleep now..
Finnish forest can be beautiful, mysterious, gloomy. But always refreshing and a nice place to visit. Soothes the mind and revives the spirit.
Lots of accumulated snow even in the southernmost parts of the country. Lovely white Christmas!
Strong enough current in this stream to keep it open even in temperatures of -20 Celsius.
