As is often the case it takes a while to get to know a device and really be able to enjoy the full cabalities.
Having used the Honor 8 for a while it seems I have gelled with phone and it is an extension of me when out and about.
I have really fallen for the monochrome cabality esoecially as it seems I sometimes see in black and white.
Walking, working and generally living in the capital region of Finland it has always been a habit of mine to document life and its beautiful moments.
The beautiful light in this city, the architecture, the people. Especially in the fall and spring the light is almost constantly in such a low degree that it casts beautiful shadows.
Indoors in Helsinki you can see the lovely architecture, this photo taken in a library testifies of that.
Or you can enjoy the lovely seaside in many places, often gazing upon fellow Finns basking in the sun, enjoying the calm serene moments of life. And the camera, the phone, always along for the ride.
Fractures appear, when we last expect them,
A hard ice formed by time, a heart hardened by hurt, suddenly shattered, Love crashing in like the Sun
Life is odd, sometimes. Somehow it seems it is almost natural to concentrate 110% on something and do it well. There is no effort whatsoever required. At other times, it seems no matter what you do, or how you do it you simply cannot get the required concentration and seem to end up somewhere way below your normal efficiency. It seems especially clear after long periods of working and winter that the latter is the truth, but after a holiday it is easier to focus. On the other hand, there seems to be a strong causal effect on the location and how your surroundings are that affect to what end you can concentrate.
A creative mind needs rest and new surroundings to properly thrive. And as these things go, when life kicks you down or you are pushed into a corner (sometimes literally) it seems you really need to get space and peace to properly function. It seems to me this gent had the talent of concentration.. I also love his hands, an honest workers hands.
Lifeboat on the wall? A symbol or still in use. I do not know. But I do know that there is a profound meaning in it. We all need someone to save us, at some point in time. It may be more of a spiritual or mental help when we have bad times or it may be real physical need that we have. Each one of needs it, whether we admit it or not. On the other hand probably all of us also are the ones doing the life-saving at one point or the other. It may not even be obvious, but a couple of right words to a stranger may mean much more to them than you will ever know..
Often times, I find myself on the fence. Whether to do something, or not. To buy a new camera for example. I know that I need to make the investment, but it is not so simple. There are lot of systems out there, and then there is the money factor as there always. Where is the money best spent etc.
Also the legacy of old cameras, old lenses make it difficult to totally jump into an entirely new brand. The needs of my photography would most likely best be served with two systems. Buying a newer version of the current manufacturer for the serious stuff/ birds. And buy a new lightweight system for the casual stuff as well as the food and the street shooting. Olympus, Fuji, Sony and Panasonic all would go very well into my needs in this department. The Fuji Xe-1 is the one I feel most drawn to, I love the design and the ergonomics. I also adore the colors this camera gives.
Olympus and Sony make smaller cameras, that seem to fit pretty well into my hands, but not as well as the Fuji.. Oh to have too much money so as to be able to buy and test all of them. Now it would be a decision to keep for a long time. I tend to not change cameras very often anyhow.
As pizzas goes I am a regular pizza guy. Pan pizzas for whatever reason are really not my preferred way of eating this type of food. Maybe its the fact that some pizzerias tend to make these portions way too small?
Needless to say this means when ordering / making pizzas I tend to gravitate towards the thinner crusted pizzas and sometimes it feels a little dull.
A good tasting pan pizza really is great when done properly. With enough fillings that is, and the crust just properly cooked, not overdone.
Visiting Hannes Heikuras exhibition has made me think more about the contrast of black ad white in pictures. Photography is in essence capturing light in its many forms, but sometimes the very strong contrasts can help to draw the eye yet sometimes that same effect may destroy an otherwise great composition. Black and white in scenic pictures is also interesting as the colors or lack of them can change a photos feel and look completely. Just interesting thoughts popping into my mind, without the answers.
Today the awards for the worlds best press photos were published at World Press Photo 2013. Lots of excellent photos there. By nature most are of conflicts and strife. After all a picture speaks a thousand words. The winning photo comes from Sweden and is by Paul Hansen. Pretty cool to win such a prestigious award IMHO.
My own favorite is the nature picture of an emperor penguin rising towards the surface that can be seen here.
Great pictures move people and hopefully can increase awareness of the condition of life outside our homes and hometowns.
Five days in fever, five days of sleep and the occasional cup of tea. Now back or sort of. Feeling maybe 85% well, rest, hopefully will increase that back to 100% soon.
Times like these, its nice to look back and dream of warmer, serene places without cares or worries. Places where life moves at a slower pace and the most pressing worries are whether the fish bite today or not.
