Rush

Sometimes it is great to loosen up and enjoy good cinema. As far as movies go, I am quite omnivorous and the most important part of any movie is just that it works in the way it is filmed and has a good story. Some movies are the sort that make you really long for the day premiere, others can be a suprise feast to the eyes and the ears.

As an avid Formula one fan I was well aware of the fact that there was a sort of semi-documentary film being made of the great F1 world champion James Hunt and his rivalry with another great driver and three times world champ Niki Lauda. The movie premiered a while back but I had the possibility to go and see it a bit late. On the positive side this meant a half-empty theater and thus excellent seats and a sort of peaceful enjoyment of the movie. I am not a big fan of 100% filled movie theaters where you might just end up getting pop corn thrown at you or have a huge fellow enjoying the movie in front of you and making it difficult to see the whole screen. 😉

Anyway, I believe this movie to be one of the top 3 movies of the 2013 year. A lot of drama and suspense as well as beautiful cinemagraphy. Great acting by all the main players and the director has made a splendid job in pulling it altogether. Definately worth the 2hrs.

Just walking

Sometimes its great to just take a camera with one lens and stroll at your own pace through the city. It can be liberating or frustrating depending on the viewpoint. I find that it is mostly liberating in that I can focus on just the one focal length and not bother with changing lenses or cameras. Also this forces the mind and the eye to see the details that the chosen lens can illustrate.

Flowers

Flowers from Kallio, towards the center of the city.

Scenery

A street in Kallio facing Merihaka

Balconies

I loved the colors and the architecture in this view.

YmpyrÀtalo

One of the buildings that exhibit a little daring architecture, the YmpyrÀtalo (Roundhouse :D) is located in Hakaniemi. I have also worked in that building for a couple of years so there is a certain sense of nostalgia when I look upon it.

yellow

Just nice colors in this tunnel to a inner yard.

windows

The windows of houses are sometimes very interesting. Especially older architecture seems to have a lot of nice details

Gold

Some quite flamboyant buildings along the way as well.

Sushi

Sushi seems to be all the rage in Helsinki at the moment. Smaller and bigger sushi places can be found all over the city.

Iceman

Nice little boat, eh? Belongs to a certain fellow countryman who goes by the nickname Iceman.

Lovebridge

A walking bridge between Katajanokka and the center of the city.

Lovebridge pt1

The bridge is full of locks proclaiming lasting love. In the background is a nice restaurant called Sipuli which has great food.

Missing someone you love?

I felt moved by this older gentleman. Somehow I think he was remembering someone very dear to him.

Merihaka

The view from Katajanokka towards the north. Merihaka has its own architecture, of which I am not exactly a fan of. But it has its own uniqueness of course and the people living there have a great view of the city center.

Trees

Cross

Church cross backlit as the sun is being blocked by storm clouds.

Sunrays

Finally even as the sun is setting, Rays of pure light break through the massing clouds.

Go Kimi Go!

gokimi

As a Finn and as a Kimi fan, the day got off to a very nice start with the Formula season starting in Australia. Kimi won! and three of perhaps the sports best drivers on podium at the same time. Very nice! I hope that the season will see many winners and no-one will dominate (even though Seb won last year aswell as the two previous seasons, last season was by no means a one-man show).
